History

In 2016, Hardee County enacted its first tourist tax and created a Tourist Development Plan for spending the revenues generated by the tax. The tourist tax, commonly known as the "bed tax," is levied on lodging room nights in the County for a term of six months or less.  

Peace River Explorations, Inc., the original name of what is now known as Visit Hardee, was formed in 2011 as a nonprofit entity and began providing tourism marketing for Hardee County. As of 2022, VH operates solely by self-funding through hosting 3 major events annually, partnerships, and private sponsorships from local businesses, as well as a marketing grant awarded in 2020, 2021, and 2022 from the Economical Development Council. VH's Board of Directors provides supervision over VH affairs.
